When searching for a quality pest control company make sure to do your homework. A treatment by an under qualified or dodgy company could result in your pests reappearing after a week or two or even unbelievably make your pest problem worse! So before you hand over your hard earned cash here is a few questions that are worth asking.
What kind of experience do you have? When you are looking to get a great pest control company, remember that often different companies have different specialities. If you have a problem with subterranean termites, what kind of experience do they have with that kind of pest?
What organizations do you belong to? Most reputable pest control agencies belong to a local or national organization of some sort. One organization that many excellent pest control companies belong to is the National Pest Management Association. Belonging to this association means that you are dealing with an established business that holds to a specific code of ethics and has met certain qualifications.
Will this endanger my children or pets? If you’ve got a household with pets or children, the safety of the extermination method used is important. Be sure to ask, and to ask early. If you’re concerned about the sprays, ask them about alternatives (like gels) or take your business elsewhere. Getting rid of pests isn’t worth risking your family’s health.
Do you have references? Check any references the Pest Company may have – talk to customers they’ve serviced before, particularly customers you know directly. Good testimonials are a good indicator of good service levels.
Can I get that in writing? Pest control usually follows a two page process – the first is an inspection to find out how they’re getting into your home, what they’re after and more. Get any kind of reporting in writing, and get a quote for the service. Be free in cross checking with other services to make sure you’re getting good information and accurate pricing.
Do they rush you? Avoid any pest control company that tries to rush you to a solution or a sale; they’re focusing more on getting the sale than answering your concerns; it’s a very rare pest infestation that needs a response inside 24 hours. A professional company will be happy for you to take as much time as you need.
Have I checked with my local Consumer Commission or Better Business Bureau? If anything that the pest control company does, or doesn’t do, causes you to question their practices don’t hesitate to contact your local consumer commission. They will be aware of any issues involving this particular company in the past and can put you in touch with relevant local regulatory agencies.
As with any professional service, it pays to shop around and ask questions. Good luck and happy hunting!
