Fortunately things have changed from around twenty five years ago when it was thought by travel experts that Glasgow flights direct to most European destinations were unsustainable. Because of this travellers were forced to fly via London Birmingham and Manchester airports.

There were alternatives available to travellers to get to other European destinations whilst avoiding the English airports. The alternatives were to fly via Dublin for flights to North America or via Amsterdam for flights to the Middle East or Australia.

Fortunately today whilst these flight options still remain there are lots more direct flights from Glasgow than ever before. New airlines are now offering cheaper fares to more and more destinations. The flying public no longer consider a holiday abroad as much of a luxury but a necessity and will now travel more often but for shorter durations.

Cheap flights would not be possible without the increased use of the internet which enables the airlines to sell their tickets cheaper than they could had they had to rely on alternative ways of selling flights

With greater access to more and more European cities offering new experiences for the traveller combined with cheaper living costs there, people can afford to travel and the growth in city breaks has been huge.

Wasting part of your holiday sitting in a transfer lounge whilst you wait for a connecting flight is no longer a necessity when you can get direct flights from Glasgow.

Searching for the best deal is easy thanks to the internet. You can compare flight prices and find the best flight from Glasgow. All you have to do is repeat the process for your accommodation and you have your own cheap short break from Glasgow.

The cheap flights have also brought foreign visitors to the Glasgow area to shop. From around late October to mid-December flights from the Scandinavian countries arrive to save money on Christmas gifts and enjoy a day out in Glasgow.

When you next think of taking a short break don’t discount the idea of travelling abroad. With a cheap flight and accommodation, a visit to one of the many European destinations could be cheaper than you expect.
