Do you want to know how I got started making home brew? Well, Im going tell you anyways! Even though I have this super terrific personalized method I use now, I started out with buying one of those home brewing kits.

There. True confession. I decided I would let the cat out of the bag and tell the world I once was a rookie cookie. The only thing that ever came close to a recipe out of me was my dang high school chemistry class. I never even had one of those little science kits that lots of guys get from aging aunties and uncles to use in my garage.

My home brew is so well liked by my family and friends they are trying to convince me to go the next step and take it to a small business. No way. I say. This is my hobby. No one is taking my fun away from me just because I no longer use one of those home brewing kits. I started that way and it was the smart thing to do.

Sure, I still use the equipment that comes with home brewing kits. But the difference is how I select my ingredients and set the temperatures and so forth. You dont think I am going to tell you all of my secrets here do you? Now I know some home brew suppliers who get me the finest ingredients for my own special brew.

Maybe after we get to know each other better I will give you more tips. But don’t wait for that. Go to a home brew forum online and ask questions there too. Then start off with one of the best home brewing kits you can find. Sure, I will help you with your first batch. I will even trade some of my special blended home brew for some of yours. That is how we work together.

I am ready to step up the production a little though, to keep up with the demand or requests, shall I say. I am making my own home brew keg style. So I can always have some fresh draft on hand for special events. I saw some clever variations of keg making plans and I have one in mind that I want to use.

You want to know if it is too expensive to stay a hobby.Of course it is. How could I afford to keep doing it if it wasn’t? Hey, once I made my first batch of home brew, I was hooked. This is fun. I like fiddling with the process to perfect it. I hardly have time for TV now. One of my buddies has a big screen TV so whenever I want to watch something I bring over some home brew to share. So I saved money by not buying a new TV and who needs cable if you are too busy to use it?

I don’t hang out at the tavern much, I bring the guys to my place or we go to my buddy’s house and I bring the home brew. It is cheaper and the guys have stopped razzing me about using those home brew kits. I got my pride. I got my home brew. I got my own label now. How cool is that for a hobby, eh? You see home brewing is now my recreation.
