Any cat lover will want to help keep their feline companion from leaving their side too early. It is not that difficult to do that and is similar to taking care of one’s own child. But there might be some key points that cat owners should take note of to extend their pet’s lifespan.
So what are the key points that should be taken note of? It starts with providing a good home for the cat to live in. Some might go for elaborate setups, but a simple cat bed with soft blankets is often enough to start with.
Cats are well known for being fussy about hygiene, although usually in their own way. How about making things easier for them by cleaning the bed and blanket? Since dust mites and fleas might come from other areas in your home, be sure to keep those areas dirt free as well.
Another very important point that must be observed to ensure a cat’s longevity is the food given to it. Not many people might be aware of this, but cats are actually natural meat eaters and do not feed on vegetable based foods.
It is perhaps this little known fact that there are many cat owners who continue to feed cat ‘health food’ to them. These are usually in the form of grains, biscuits or cereals which are not necessarily bad, but are not suitable for the little animals.
Therefore, it is advisable to feed meat based foods to your cat. It can be anything as long as it contains animal protein. Their internal body system thrives on the latter and the best options for owners might be to get fresh fish or some other forms of fresh meat.
The canned pet food for cats sold in pet shops should therefore have the same composition. Cat grains might be good to be given once in a while, but note that many cats normally throw up hairballs which are often partly the result of eating food they are not used to. Their lifespan might suffer as a result.
With these three points in mind, it should be considerable enough to help keep your cat healthy and keeping you company for a long time to come. They might be more particular about their hygiene and nutritional needs, but it should hardly be an effort for someone you love so much.
