Prevention of Chronic Bronchitis

Chronic bronchitis as its name indicates is a chronic disease therefore it is best to hinder the Advancement of the lung problem in its early stages. An attack of bronchitis begins as acute bronchitis, it is a generalized swelling of upper respiratory tract and usually manifests with following symptoms:

-Frequent bouts of coughing, which may or may not be accompanied by chesttightness

-Affected patient gasps for breath

-Extreme tiredness

-Pyrexia may also seen

-Pain may follow after bouts of prolonged expectoration

This continued over a long duration may lead as chronic bronchitis if not checked in time.

The foremost and most important step to do is to identify the irritant and take steps to avoid it. Contact with irritants like cigarette smoke should be avoided at all costs. Smokers should give up on smoking before the condition gets out of hand.

Other protective procedures include:

-Those liable towards regular bronchitis attacks like Heavy smokers should avoid areas of heavy air pollution and dust.

-Always wear protective clothes and mask when operating in a dusty area.

-Be extra cautious during seasonal changes as number of bronchitis attacks increase in this duration.

-Be sure to take up a fixed schedule of physical activity.

-Protect mouth and nose when going out in cold places so that the Person does not breath in cold air as cold air is known to cause exacerbations.

-Be careful when taking antibiotics of minor niggles always consult from your doctor.

-Incorporate high doses of beneficial vitamins like vitamin A and C. In case of an episode of bronchitis here are the things that you can do to ease the discomfort

-Start using a humidifier to loosen the mucous so that it can be easily expectorated out.

-Avoid indiscriminate usage of medications that decrease cough as our aim should be to cough out as much mucous as possible.

-Take steroidal inhalers breathers if needed.

-Another preventive measure to take is reduce the intake of food stuff that increase the production of cough like sweet food items, dairy and fat laden items.

-Also be punctual with annual vaccinations for flu.

-Maintain good personal cleanliness and always wash hands before any meal.
