Soccer is one of those games that are fantastic to sign your kid up for. One thing that usually happens whenever you sign your child up for soccer though is that there are not enough coaches. This is where all of the pleading and begging will come in for you to begin soccer coaching for your child’s team. While it might sound like a piece of cake, if you do not know anything about soccer or how to coach it, you might be in a bit of trouble.
After you have decided to accept the position of soccer coach, you now need to learn the rules of the game and just how to play soccer. When you sign up to be a coach, there should be a packet of information outlining the rules of soccer and just how to be a good coach but to be completely honest, most people do not read those.
When you are the coach of the soccer team, you will have to make some positions for your team. This is why you should be familiar with what is allowed in the game and what isn’t. The first thing that you should take into thought is the teams age. Commonly, in soccer, you can not sign up if you are not seven years old at least, so usually your team will consist of seven to eleven year olds.
The positions of the game and the possible formations are important as well. The keeper, the midfielder, the forward, and the defender are the basic and key positions in this game. Once those positions have been field, you are ready to put together a formation.
The 4-4-2 is probably the most common, most often used formation. What it basically means is that four defenders, four midfielders, and then two forwards. The eleventh position goes to the goalie, or keeper.
One of the main reasons why this formation is so popular is because it gives an overall good balance of your team when they are in the game. You will definitely want to teach your team what all of these positions are and you want to give your team an opportunity to play each and every position. You will however, have to decide who is best for what position, that way you can make sure that you are gaining a very competitive and winning team.
Although formations are important, it is definitely important for you to give your team some tactics, drills and skills. These are things that you are going to have to do with your team.
One of the first skills and most important skills that you need to be teaching your players is going to be the passing, shooting, dribbling and playing defense. Most of the other skills can be learned on the field as they are learning soccer the game, but you, as the coach need to come up with drills for each of those four areas.
