Getting bored with bowling? Why not try a new hobby that is a walk on the wild side? There is a whole world of hobbies out there that most of us would never even think of. Think about what you like to do, how adventurous you are, whether you like to be inside or out. Taking your preferences into consideration take a look at some of these options and see if they might be just right for you.
If you are up for a long term hobby you might want to look into trees shaping. This is where you take living trees and shape them into unusual shapes and figures. This takes a lot of time so it’s not a hobby for those who are impatient. It can be very rewarding at the end of a project, when you have an interesting shape in your tree, or even have made your tree into a chair you can use in your yard.
Not willing to wait for years to see your hobby come to fruition? Want something a little more exciting? Why not try sky diving? It is one of the most exciting hobbies you can get. Flying to altitude and then jumping out of a plane! You can fly solo or in a group. Many people are forming sky diving groups where they do acrobatics while plummeting towards the ground.
Looking for something not quite so scary? Are you a homebody, like to spend time at home? Maybe you would like something you can do while you watch TV? Quilting may be just what you’re looking for then. Quilting is a hobby that has been around for generations. In the beginning, it was not a hobby at all, but a necessity of life. Now that you can buy a blanket at any store it’s much more a hobby, but there is nothing like a hand made quilt.
Want a hobby that’s a little more exciting than quilting? This one is very unusual. Dumpster Diving. This is a hobby where you can go alone or with a group of friends, looking through other people’s trash looking for treasures. You can take dumpster diving to any degree, some just find some interesting objects they need. Others look for things they can put in works of art. Some people take dumpster diving to the farthest extreme and find all of their food from other people’s trash.
If you are looking for a similar type of adventure, but not so much digging in the trash you may find urban exploring fits you just right. Urban exploring, also known as urban spelunking refers to those people who explore deserted or abandoned properties. These may be abandoned hospitals or factories. They could be burned out buildings. This is called urban exploring but can be done anywhere you can find abandoned buildings. Although urban spelunkers may be trespassing on the properties they explore they are generally very ethical people leaving the property in just the state they found it.
What about Guerrilla gardening? This one is slightly illegal too, but leaves a beautiful footprint. Guerrilla gardening means going onto property you don’t own and planting seeds or bulbs. I think this sounds like a great hobby myself. What fun for people to wake up one day in spring to see daffodils blooming or a grape hyacinth peeking through the snow. This all depends I suppose on how guerrilla you get, but it sounds like a lot of fun.
Prefer to keep the excitement but want to keep it legal? What about beekeeping. This is an growing hobby among both counrtry and city dwellers alike. Keeping bees can be quite gratifying, not only to take care of a species who in recent years has seen diminishing numbers, but also in the production of honey and beeswax. If you like to be outside and can handle the buzzing of bees, beekeeping for beginners is pretty easy to learn and there are quite a few books available on how to do it right.
